for Yakuza Sushi 893®️. A dining experience inspired by the dark side of Japan.

YAKUZA 8-9-3 is a restaurant that offers a gastronomic experience inspired by the obscure side of Japan. The japanese culinary developed through centuries as a result of economic and political changes and, as a shadow of it, an organization was also created and fixated in its nation. We are talking about Yakuza.

In Japan, to understand what light represents, the tradition from shadows was explored as well. The Buda's shadows are more important than the sculpture's faces, the tattoos (teboris), after being prohibited by the government, had to be hidden under the clothes, in its shadows. It's common in human nature to be attracted to dark places. And these are the shadows that are illuminated in Yakuza 8-9-3 Sushi.

Yakuza = no points. Yakuza is derived from a local dialect that translates the 8-9-3 number sequence (Yattsu, Ku, San). The word comes from a card's game named oichukabu, usually played with a hanafuda deck. The sum of these numbers is 20 and, in this game, the points are counted by the sum of a group of cards and using only the smaller number from it. This way 20 turns into 0 points. So, originally, Yakuza means a zero point game.

YAKUZA = SEM PONTOS. Yakuza é derivado de um dialeto regional e significa a sequência de números “8-9-3” (Yattsu, Ku, San). Este nome provém de um jogo de cartas chamado oichokabu, que normalmente é jogado com um baralho de hanafuda. A soma destes números corresponde a 20. A pontuação do jogador neste jogo é decidido pela soma das pontuações em várias cartas e utilizando apenas o menor dígito e portanto segundo as regras do jogo, 20 é igual a 0 pontos. Assim, o significado original da yakuza é “sem pontos”.
